TOP TEN YA Cover [and Title!] Loves of 2017 PT 2

Last post I shared my top ten favorite covers of 2017–which you can read ~here~ if you haven’t already–and I was so disappointed with myself because after I posted, I realized I forgot to showcase runner-ups! #fail

Then I came up with The Plan. First, cover loves. Then, title loves. After PT 1 and 2, I’ll do one last post highlighting novels I deemed worthy of BOTH categories…and, finally, get to those runner-ups. PT 3 is going to be stellar *_* *_* *_*

I love YA so, so much. Perusing (read: fangirling over) hundreds of YA covers and titles has convinced me yet again that YA is seriously one of the best genres ever. I’m proud to read and write YA! It was painstaking to choose only ten, and personally I think it’s a disservice to not have runner-ups because they’re just that fabulous!

As mentioned in my Top Ten Cover Loves, I am unashamedly guilty of picking books to read based on their covers….but, and I know I’m not the only one who does this, I also choose based on the title (as judged by the Scale of Brilliant ;-). It’s an intuitive spark…like with poetry, if I’m moved by a title, I will generally put a book on my tbr on the spot.

I’m going to start a new thing (unless it already exists…in which case I will NOT start a new thing but will most certainly be jumping on the bandwagon): Title Love. #titlesmatter(too)

Moral: Book titles matter. Arrrr.

Without further ado, because I know this is your bookish heart’s desire: My top ten…TITLE LOVES! Woooooot!

Top Ten Title Loves~~~

10. This Darkness Mine by Mindy McGinnis

This isn’t the first time I’ve been slain by McGinnis because of title brilliance. In fact, EVERY LAST BOOK SHE’S PENNED has utterly slayed me. I don’t favor gritty tales, but when it comes to McGinnis, I really just can’t help myself. *A Madness So Discreeeeetttt* #killingit

9. A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard

Excuse my flailing because This. Title! Rich, evocative, taut to bursting with promise of a momentous story. This is why I will never get to all the books in my tbr pile!

8. On Through the Never by Melissa Hurst

This is somewhat reminiscent of Veronica Rossi’s Under the Never Sky (yep, read it based on the title). I love the imagination behind it, how the possibilities seep and leap and soar when I consider what going ‘on through the never’ might look like.

7. A Shadow’s Breath by Nicole Hayes

Poetically sinister; what more can a girl ask for in a book?? (Ok, a lot…but just run with it. Don’t throw off my groove. #kuzcoooooo)

6. 36 Questions That Changed My Mind About You by Vicki Grant

Not only does this title incite my curiosity about what those questions were exactly…but it warms my heart because–though now that I consider it more deeply, it could go both ways–discovering more about another person and falling in love with them for who they really are as opposed to who you thought they were is a beautiful thing.

Running Press hasn’t released any deets that I can find, and there’s not a cover yet.

5. Because of the Sun by Jenny Sanchez

Powerhouse singers rock my socks. This title is like a powerhouse singer. It’s a powerhouse title. ❤

4. Even the Darkest Stars by Heather Fawcett

As stars are bright, blazing lights, this conundrum of a title is both mystifying and entrancing.

3. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

Ok, like McGinnis, Taylor just obliterates my feels when it comes to titles (and basically everything else because LAINI TAYLOR), and Strange the Dreamer is no exception. Nod to the cover as well (though it didn’t make my runner up list). Looking forward to this one!

2. Count All Her Bones by April Henry

Because if this title isn’t creepy, morbid, a tad macabre, and utterly electrifying enough for you all at once, something is wrong with your title radar. Let me help you with that.

1. The Taste of Blue Light by Lydia Ruffles

I am a hopeless cause when it comes to mismatching senses. I. Love. It. I love the idea of smelling or tasting colors. Hearing a feeling. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s the poet in me? Regardless, The Taste of Blue Light has captivated me and I have high expectations already 😀

I can’t wait to see what the cover looks like!

Welp, that’s my top ten titles…and, next (and last of this series) post, I’ll be showcasing Runner-ups and novels that were just so brilliant in both categories it’d be a crying shame to not give them their own category of epicness and mangos!

Why mangos? I have no idea. (Astrid really likes mangos though and I do too so it seems like a good plan.)
